CTS Projects

At CTS we work with a variety of government and NGOs, building on our experience of working for NATO. CTS has led the scenario design and has been pivotal in the execution of exercises that are at the forefront of NATO transformation, a multi-million-dollar programme to re-adjust NATO to conditions in the modern world as both a military and a political organisation.
We then bring that level of experience and expertise to our work with corporate clients, NGOs, corporations, governments and other private clients.

Setting Projects

CTS provided support for the development of the last five Settings:

1. FIKSO
CTS was an equal partner in the development of the FIKSO North Africa setting and scenario. CTS also provided the key lead developer for the project.

2. OCCASUS (N)
CTS took the lead in the further development of the setting and scenario to reflect the growing participation of SHAPE as a key training participant. The improvement included development of a robust International geo-political setting and a refinement of the county profiles which provides a political military challenging environment, fit for purpose, for future training audiences at the strategic and operational level. This work on OCCASUS (N) established a new baseline for setting and scenario development from which future exercises will build.

3. OCCASUS
CTS supports the development of the OCCASUS setting, initially with a team effort to scope the project. CTS then provide strategic and operational support for the development of the OCCASUS scenario development for TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2018.

4. SOROTAN
CTS provided the lead team for the development of SOROTAN setting and scenario which was then executed as TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2015.

5. SKOLKAN
‘Skolkan’ was a revolutionary step-change in the reality of exercise scenarios and allowed the participation of actual NATO governments. This highly detailed setting allows the integration of real-world countries, especially the Baltic States, into fictitious but highly realistic conditions from all-out modern warfare in First-World conditions to peacekeeping and humanitarian support.
In a unique exercise, the roles of the Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish governments were played by the government themselves. CTS staff led the scenario development efforts and were responsible for the development of the great majority of the ‘Skolkan’ setting that was used.

Very High Readiness Force

CTS are currently working on the development and exercising of the Very High Readiness Force being created to cope with the new military threats around the world.

SHAPE BST 2018

CTS, in conjunction with our Strategic Partner Roger Lane Consulting (RLC), provided a 6-person team to support the SHAPE Battle Staff Training (BST) in October 2018. The aim of the BST was to provide a training environment for the heads of the major divisions, and their staffs, in order to synchronize and optimize the HQs ability to plan and execute operations. The training regularly involved 2* participants from within the HQ and was subject to direct oversight by SACEUR himself. CTS and RLC designed a training package to ensure that the SHAPE senior staff understood the HQ battle rhythm (BR) and specifically the Boards and working groups that contribute and enable a timely and effective decision-making process.

NAPLES BST 2018

In 2018, in conjunction with our Strategic Partner RLC, CTS provided a team to support the NATO Joint Force Command Naples (JFCNP) throughout the duration of Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2018. This included designing and developing a Battle Staff Training (BST) package, supporting the HQ in developing their MELMIL Script and providing a 3-person team in support of the final phase of the exercise. The BST provided a training environment for the heads of the major divisions, and their staffs, to synchronize and optimize the HQs ability to plan and execute operations. The training regularly engaged 2* participants from within the HQ and enabled them to better understand HQ BR. Specifically, it demonstrated how the Boards and Working Groups contribute and drive the BR. This training was then followed up with assistance to the HQ in developing their MELMIL package and culminated in direct support to the HQ during the final phase of the exercise.
